2014 American Education Week – Essay Contest – Deadline: Nov 30

Join Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. as we embrace the National Education Association’s (NEA) American Education Week Theme in our National Essay Contest. Our contest theme this year is ”Technology In Today’s Educational Environment: Advantages Or Disadvantages.” American Education Week highlights the importance of bringing together educators, school staff, parents, students, and community leaders in a unified effort to build great public schools. The themes also reflect NEA’s vision of calling upon America to provide students with quality public schools and education so that they can grow, prosper, and achieve. The essay contest is open to all youth in middle school and high school.” The top three entries will receive monetary awards.

Anna J. Steen Memorial Scholarship

Memorial regional scholarship The Anna J. Steen Scholarship of the Eastern Region for the year 2015 will be awarded to a graduating female high school student who plans to major in a profession or business. Please note: One letter of recommendation must be from your local Chapter President for this award.

Dorethea N. Hornbuckle Memorial Scholarship (DNHMS) – Deadline: Feb 14

The DNHMS is a National Scholarship award that is awarded by your local chapter to women attending college. It provides financial assistance to college students enabling them to pursue academic studies in the areas of business, business administration, science or engineering at an accredited institution of higher learning within the United States of America. Award is up to $3000.00.

Future Iota leaders Scholarship (FIL) – Deadline: Feb 14

The FIL Scholarship is an award for youth who are participating in Iota Phi lambda’s Youth Auxiliary Future Iota Leaders. Find out more information about joining Gamma Chapter’s FIL Club to get information on eligibility for this award. The FIL club does community activities, business, resume and application training and Leadership development for budding young women. This award is $1000.00.

Alice P. Allen National Scholarship – Deadline: Feb 24

The Alice P. Allen National Scholarship is named in honor of Iota’s second National President (1946-1950). This $2,000.00 scholarship is to be awarded to a teenage mother desiring to further her education beyond high school. Judging criteria will include academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and financial need. This scholarship is available through local chapters only. Each Chapter manages this award locally and awards $250.00 locally to the one winner selected to compete for the national $2,000.00 award. Please contact your local chapter for more information.
