Anna J. Steen Regional Scholarship
Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. is an organization of business and professional women whose focus is to encourage young women entering the field of business and or other professions. Through outstanding academics coupled with community involvement, young women exemplify the ideals of empowerment that we share.
The Eastern Region wishes to support endeavors to pursue education through this $1,000.00 award for a female graduating senior who plans to major in business or another profession. This highly competitive award is conducted by the Eastern Region and administered through each local chapter. To apply please submit the required documentation listed below to your local chapter. The winner will be selected by the region.
About Mrs. Anna Johns Steen
She was born in 1912 and later earned two degrees including an M.A. from Howard University. Mrs. Steen was a member of the Gamma Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority in Washington, DC during its early years. Soror Steen was a big influence in the education committee. She became a National Executive Board member in 1951.
In 1962, Soror Steen received the Lola M. Parker Achievement Award, the highest honor conferred by the Sorority at the 33rd Anniversary Convention. In addition to her life of service to Iota, Soror Steen served her local community as an educator, teaching business skills to students, for the Washington, DC Public School System.
Soror Steen was committed to Omega Chapter during the 36th Anniversary Convention in 1965. Because Soror Steen exemplified Iota ideals and lived her life with dedicated service to community and to Iota. She is remembered by the Eastern Region each year with the award of the annual Anna J. Steen Scholarship.

- 3 letters of recommendation (1 from local chapter president)

- Application must be submitted to your LOCAL CHAPTER for the local deadline and any additional requirements
- Application is to be postmarked to the Region by March 1.
